After School Jobs

Over 60 percent of secondary students have an after school job in Australia, yet many students with disability are unable to get the support they need to have the same opportunity as their peers. Providing access and exposure to employment for young people throughout their secondary school years, shapes a person’s image of themselves as a ‘worker’ as they will be given the opportunity to expand their skills, experiences and increase their confidence to move into employment when they finish school.

Ticket to Work is running a pilot that explores the effects that an after school job has on a young person with a disability. We have partnered with Latrobe University to evaluate this pilot. Latrobe has completed a paper into the peer reviewed literature.
